Lady Godiva returns to Coventry for Godiva Awakes – The Homecoming
Today Lady Godiva returned to Coventry and we were there to see her!
The event, called Godiva Awakes – The Homecoming, in Coventry City town centre, saw the return of the huge 20ft mechanical statue of Lady Godiva aboard her Cyclopedia with a cavalcade of cyclists and walkers. Last summer she set off to London’s Olympic stadium for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games on a purpose-built bike powered by 50 cyclists.
My daughter who is 4 1/2 was really impressed – she even said “she is better than all of my toys” which is really saying something. She was amazed by the size and beauty of her and was particularly impressed that she moved her head, could wave, walk and even blink!
It was a spectacle that I will not forget, and I hope that my daughter will not either.
I was particularly please with my photo of the three Lady Godiva’s, the one that comes out of the clock tower on the hour, every hour, the 20ft statue and the bronze statue of Lady Godiva on her horse that take pride of place in Broadgate.
