Handmade coastal gifts for Father’s Day

Father’s Day is on June 16th in the UK and it’s coming around quick. Are you looking for something a bit different this year? How about bringing a bit of the coast into your home with these fun and colourful coastal gifts.

The first image shows my replica Lobster Buoy door stops. These are heavy enough to be a door stop but could also sit on a shelf or window sill just to remind you of the coast. There are seven designs to choose from.

Next, how about a Beach Hut Bird House. These unique little gifts contain a bag of bird seed inside and come in 4 different colours. They are made of thick card so not for out door use. They would however bring that lovely seaside feel into any home (and your garden birds will enjoy a yummy snack too)

The last image shows my Beach In A Jar. These fun gifts contain sand, shells, pebbles, a starfish and a tranquil beach backdrop. They can be personalised by adding your own beach finds or photograph. Beach In A Jars come in large and small size.

Today was the Earlsdon Festival and it was a really fantastic day. The sun shone and so many people came along. I had my stall selling my Driftwood Dreaming products and it was a huge success. I received so many lovely comments from people who stopped to look and buy.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by my stall today!

Driftwood boat ready to set sail

I’ve just completed my first driftwood boat and I’m really happy with it – in fact I think this is one of my favourite driftwood creations so far. This is now ready for my craft fair at the Earlsdon Festival on May 6th…not long now!

My husband and I are big fans of Kirsty Elson’s beautiful driftwood houses and knowing that owning one ourselves is very unlikely as her order book must be very lengthy. So over the past few months I’ve been collecting some cute little shaped pieces of driftwood with this project in mind – tonight I finally got around to making my own version of Kirsty’s little houses. I’ve given this to my husband as a gift to apologise for the amount of time I’ve spent hidden up in my craft room lately! So sorry folks – this one is not for sale but I hope you like it – my husband loved it!

I made this driftwood jewellery holder for myself some time ago and have only just got around to mounting it on my wall – I’m really pleased with it as I can now keep my necklaces tangle free!

Sea Glass pendant Mother’s Day gift

I have recently discovered sea glass or sometimes known as beach glass. Sea glass is fragments of bottles and other glass-wear that have been physically and chemically weather by the sea. After being naturally tumbled by the constant motion of the water and sand over several years each piece of sea glass is unique and intriguing with a mysterious past. Many pieces can be traced back to over 100 years. Some pieces are rugged with sharp edges but most are smooth and are very beautiful.

I went hunting for sea glass for the first time this weekend and found a handful of pieces. It took several hours but was a lot of fun but not great on the old back!

Here are a few of the pieces I found, including some beach pottery and also a piece of jewellery that I made for my Mum for Mother’s Day using a piece of sea glass.

Hand made beach stones – can you tell the difference?

Tonight I have been busy making stones to use in my driftwood garlands for my forthcoming craft fair. In some of my designs I use real stones from the beach, but where I don’t want the item to be too heavy I use stones that I have made from Fimo as these are very light weight. Below you can see 20 beach stones. 10 are real stones from the beach, 10 are hand made – can you tell which are which?? Check out my facebook page to find out if you were right!

Multi coloured granny square baby’s blanket

For some time now I have been busy working on a multi-coloured crochet baby blanket for friends who have recently had a little baby boy. I made granny squares then sewed them together. Progress was slow as I am quite slow at crochet - I cannot seem to hold the crochet hook correctly – I hold it as a knitter holds a knitting needle – this slows me down somewhat!!! However, the blanket finally got finished and then I waited to find out what colour the edging boarder needed to be – pink or blue! It turned out to be blue! So here it is…

My first craft fair booked!

My local area, Earlsdon in Coventry, UK, holds an annual Festival of entertainments including a craft fair on the main shopping street. This year I will be running a stall at the craft fair to sell my range of Decorative Hand Made gifts made from driftwood.

The craft fair will be taking place on Monday 6th May bank holiday in Earlsdon High Street.
